Is Terminal Server Enough?

Terminal Server 2003 can do a lot of impressive things:

·         Full color depth and resolution

·         All client platforms supported

·         RDP 5.2 is very thin

·         RDP virtual channels support clipboard, printer, audio, COM, and LPT mapping.

There’s still a lot that Terminal Server 2003 cannot do:

·         Application-level load balancing

·         Application publishing

·         Seamless windows

·         Auto web application interface

·         Load-balancing is network-based and limited to 32 nodes

·         Load-balancing requires the Enterprise Edition to really be effective

Third-party Advantages:

·         It’s not about ICA vs. RDP anymore

·         “Big four” advantages of third-party software

o   Load balancing

o   Seamless Windows

o   Application publishing

o   Web application interface
